» Alfie: Why So Serious?

Whether you love him or hate him I always thought an interview with the controversial dods player United Kingdom Alfonzo “revenge” Read might be an interesting one. Some might say he doesn’t deserve a voice on zeroPoint! But others might say why not? Well, I am one of the latter. Why not? If he was to take this serious then maybe something good would come of it. So, here is the conversation I had with the self-proclaimed “most hated dods player”.

User: Alfie Read
Alter: Revenge
Clan: N/A
IRC: N/A

Hi Alfie, could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello Snoops, I'm Alfonzo "revenge" Read, probably the most hated player of the dods community. I'm 16years old, live in London, UK and currently studying for my AS Levels.

Oh nice, good luck with your studies! Firstly, I will start with some questions about your real life. Being 16 and still in school, what are your plans for the future? What would you like to be when you "grow up"?

I was looking to go to university if I get decent A-levels, which I guess is still a possibility, but after thinking about the choices I have, I probably will end up in the Army in a few years. I'm not sure exactly what makes me want to, but I find it interesting, and it’s something I've always wanted to do. The thrill and excitement
out there at times must be great, even if I’m shitting my pants.

Sounds positive! Although I've known a lot of friends and family to leave because of the stress of it all, I guess that depends on what you are there for. Do you think you could handle it mentally?

I'd say now that I can handle it, but then when it comes to it I think it will be a struggle. The difference will be massive compared to what I'm used to, I will have to put in a lot of hard work and get rid of my lazy ways - which is going to be a big wake up call for me. I’m not really sure what to expect but I know it’s going to be a lot harder than I think.

Is there anything outside of school and gaming that you do on a regular basis? Any hobbies?

I spend time going out with my mates, or as rellie calls it "drinking cider at the park" zunge raus Which isn’t too far off to be fair. There’s not much to do where I live so we spend time playing a bit of football, having a laugh and doing anything we can find to keep ourselves entertained.

Haha I sense some "Chav" jokes coming zwinkern Talking of football... You're a Spurs fan right? What do you think of their performance this season?

Spurs are playing great this season and I think with Redknapp we have a chance of nicking that 4th Champions League spot. I got offered to buy a ticket for the Wigan game on Sunday and turned it down thinking it would be a poor game. Absolutely gutted now seeing as I would have been sitting in the best stand in the ground during a 9-1 win!

OK, now onto Gaming. You mentioned earlier being the most hated player of the dods community. This stems from moments of racism and abuse on the zeroPoint! Forums, which in turn got you banned. Given that all of this is in the past now, do you think that if you were to turn over a new leaf you could be accepted back into the community
or do you think most people would not forgive and forget?

Well there’s no denying I'm hated by a lot of people. I've been racist and abusive to people and crossed the lines on a few occasions but at the end of the day it’s the internet. People aren’t going to take what I say to heart, and if they do then they need to grow some balls - most of the people know I'm only joking around. If you see cadred or tek9 there’s threads and threads of racism, abuse with much worse stuff than I have said on zP, they all take it as friendly banter and play along with it, which normally ends in some funny stuff. I doubt I would be accepted back into the community, there’s always going to be people who hate me, and to be honest - I really don’t care.

Well at least you're honest. So, we know that you have been a dods player for a while now. Could you give us a little history of previous clans and players you have played with?

I've only played in one real clan since I started dods, which was RuiN Gaming. I don't know why United Kingdom Lindo picked me up, I was bad at the game then and I'm still terrible now. RuiN had the funniest guys ever and the vent chat was always amazing. There was always banter between us and it was just so much fun compared to now. From what I can remember this was the line-up: Lindo, jo3y, p0d, Me, exodus, Ross_uK, Richiii, Tom. I stayed in the team for a few months over the summer, until the FAMOUS 2bomb vs eF with heavy (fuck you tickle amüsiert) on dod_flash. I got kicked from the clan because of it and United Kingdom Lindo still loves mentioning that game to me amüsiert I still like playing dods mixes with some UK'ers, but I've played some CS 1.6 mixes lately where I am totally LEGIT.

Haha, I must say you are better at 1.6 than dods, although I can't work out why! Which other games have you played both in competition and for fun?

I used to play TF2 quite competitively for a small clan when it was first brought out. I was actually half decent and played vs some good teams like 4kings, CrackClan, wotr etc. (although we got hammered most of the time). Other than tf2 and dods I haven’t played any game at a competitive level, unless you count the cod4 and 1.6 mixes with rellie, DA BUNZ and adam or the cs:s mixes with the clutchmasterz boys. (Amazing css shoutcasting Turtz <3<3)

I guess you have a bit of knowledge about eSports in general, not just dods. Who would you say are the best players at the moment in Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source?

The cod community has been shaken up a bit with MW2 failing and with the inactivity of top teams it’s hard to judge. I would have to say lighters from Reason Gaming is the best I've seen, he’s always solid and consistent. In CS 1.6 - obviously f0rest is up there, he is just incredible but I think walle and kHRYSTAL performed really well in Intel Extreme Masters Dubai and are on great form. I don’t pay much attention to CS:S its full of a bunch of tossers.

And what about Day of Defeat: Source? Who would you rate as the best players and teams? Both past and present.

With exel leaving zP!, bourne from TLR has got to be the best rifle, when he is on form he just hits everything, just a machine. Although, I heard there’s been a shuffle in TLR and he has swapped to sniper. The best heavy has to be either United Kingdom RiN or antrax. Everyone knows United Kingdom RiN will rip apart any team even on a bad day, but antrax is always the main man for zP!, and always seems consistent. So it’s a close call between them. The best sniper has to be LUK3^, or if he is not cheating, then zg from rctic.

I didn’t really play competitively back when all the old "pros" were playing so it’s hard to say. rnl is the best sniper I've seen from back then - his reactions were immense. nightmare looked like a beast on the heavy from the demos I've watched, and for rifle I'm not too sure really, the best I've seen play is korsAkov, but I heard tomsku was one of the best when he played in cadre.

What do you think of the current dods scene? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

Yes it could by getting me unbanned from the zP! website zunge raus Nah, the scene is good at the moment, fAn and the esl admins have done a great job organising the ESL OC and EMS, which keeps teams interested. A few old players have come back too, and it shows that the community is still going well.

Many people consider you a top moviemaker and can produce some stunning results as seen in the zP! LAN trailer. This skill however has been held back by a lack of motivation at times, do you think you will be getting back into it any time soon?

I'm not a top moviemaker imo, I just know a lot about how the programs work. Editors like exonity, exodus, axy and zigarren are much much better than me. The zP lan trailer was made in 2 days when I was actually motivated to learn After Effects. I just started playing around and everything fell into shape nicely. I was shocked when I got such positive feedback from the community. I've actually just started work on a kicked by console style movie for dod source. I've aimed to collect the best takedowns from pre-palermo dods, and put them all together for a 4-5minute movie. So far I have got some amazing demos from rnl, tomsku, nightmare, tigii etc. so hopefully even if my editing is shit, the frags will make it enjoyable. The movie is still in the early stages but I'm hoping for a release late December/January, depending on how busy I am over Christmas. Also, massive thanks to Lemming, LUK3, exodus, axy, ZiGarren, exonity and everyone else for helping me with moviemaking.

Nice, should be an epic movie! What would you consider to be among the best of Day of Defeat's movies? From both 1.3 and Source.

rnl So Long Sisters was the most enjoyable, the edit was clean, easy to watch and the frags were amazing. The best editing has to be England jo3y - Perplexed 2 by exodus. Exodus has so much creativity its unreal, and he makes the movies so quick, absolute genius when it come editing. I haven’t really seen many 1.3 movies, but An1maL 4 Reflex was amazing, the beach house takedown was the best frags I have seen. I really enjoyed bnzr's latest movie too which luke made.

Do you have some quick tips for any upcoming moviemakers? Any secrets you could share?

Many people don’t like giving out settings or anything, I’m not too fussed. There’s too many tips to write down here but if you ever want tips or have a problem then contact me on steam and I will try to help.

Well, now the interview has to come to a close. Thanks for your time and hopefully this will have given people a little insight into your gaming and real life. Any shoutouts? Final words?

Stop being so fucking serious, it’s the internet.
